Make way for the emerging 'silicon economy'

 

Few of the current crop of technology analysts have been around long enough to offer much useful analysis on the state of technology investment, let alone put the innovation process into a sixty-year historical perspective.

 

An exception is Mark Stahlman, a Wall Street technology strategist who has been writing about tech-driven growth cycles for more than 20 years.

 

Writing in the current issues of Strategy + Business magazine, Stahlman surmises that the global economy has entered a "new golden age" and what Stahlman calls "the emerging silicon economy."

China and the world eye Shanghai Expo 2010


China wowed the world with the widely-acclaimed 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China and now it hopes to again project the image of a forward looking, innovative "rising China"  at the "EXPO 2010 Shanghai China" which takes place May 1-October 31, 2010.

 

Expo 2010 will be the largest World's Fair in history, encompassing over 1200 acres and with over 70 million projected visitors.  Its theme,"Better City, Better Life" is intended to give Shanghai a chance to highlight its own development as a major global economic and cultural center.

Science, biotech of aging captures media spotlight

The biotech and science of aging is riding a media wave of popular attention and captured the cover of Time Magazine last week in this headline:

 

In New York last week a rigorous new documentary on the subject To Age or Not to Age..." made its screen premier and included a panel discussion with the film's director  Robert Kane Pappas and an assembly of global experts on aging.

 

Writing this week in Scientific American Magazine, reporter Katie Moisse, in: Anti-aging talk: Getting old or just getting started?, notes that "the very definition of aging was one of the documentary’s more intriguing topics. Do we get sick as we get old or vice versa? Do we wear out like old cars?"

The Brave New World of Publishing 

 

News and wire services reported this week that ABC, the television network, is leading the charge to get content onto new tablet devices and is a pioneering a bold new media technology path by talking to tech companies to have apps for the Apple iPad ready to go this year.


A senior executive at Adobe, which is already in a deal with Apple and Wired Magazine, revealed that  ABC was keen to strike up a partnership with the company. Abode's Flash Player technology is being used by other media groups to bring their content onto the iPad and a range of similar tablets due to be put on the market this year.
