Harvard University opens Innovation Center

Lobby artwork in the new Harvard Innovation Center sets the tone for the Ivy League school’s first cross-university initiative to foster entrepreneurship and innovation.

Hanging colored glass that reflects onto the floor and 3-D sculptures of human forms scaling a wall, diving off a cliff and walking on a path speak to the “sense of what’s possible and the breadth of areas where innovation may happen,” director Gordon Jones said.

The 30,000-square-foot i-lab, which unofficially opened in October on Harvard’s Allston campus, debuts publicly today with a ribbon-cutting, open house and self-guided tours, according to a report in Boston Herald.

Located on the first floor of Batten Hall, in a building that formerly housed WGBH-TV’s studios, the $20 million facility is designed to equip entrepreneurial students to take their ideas as “far as they can go,” using the best of Harvard’s knowledge and network, according to Jones.  >>More here
