Hudson-Creative seeks user input for proposed Mid-Hudson maker space

Hudson-Creative is conducting an online market study to assess the feasibility of bringing a maker space to the City of Hudson, New York. Click here to take the User Interest Survey.

The non-profit community-based start-up organization is seeking funding and partnership to provide work spaces, equipment and a collaborative atmosphere for the creation of fine art, functional art, and crafts, and from making single custom items (prototypes) for small series manufacturing. The organization submitted a maker space proposal as part of  the 2018 Hudson Downtown Revitalization Initiative but did not make the final cut for funding.

Hudson-Creative’s proposed maker is designed to provide affordable opportunities to create almost anything. Its mission is to make craft a part of life for everyone, from the complete beginner to the expert. This would include have tools for electronics, woodworking, metalworking, welding, sewing, robotics, and many forms of design, repair and restoration. The facility would be open to people of all ages.

The community space would also act as a teaching and learning center for the community to learn new skills and improve existing skills. It will support and strengthen new and existing entrepreneurial businesses, including startups and small businesses.

Whether called creativity spaces, maker spaces or hacker spaces, these facilities combine manufacturing equipment, community, and education for the purposes of enabling community members to design, prototype and create works that wouldn’t be possible to create with the resources available to individuals alone.

This video provides a good overview of, and answers the question: what is a maker space?

The closest maker space to Hudson is Tech Valley Center of Gravity, located in Troy.

The Hudson-Creative market study seeks to assess the feasibility of a creativity space; how many people will participate, what opportunities they will need, and how often they would use Hudson-Creative.
