Digifabshop hosted a factory tour for Hudson High School students earlier this month where they got a first hand look at STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) concepts at work and saw how the new ‘practical arts’ (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) are applied in the manufacturing process, from the design phase to finished products.
The field trip was an extension of the Creative Career Luncheon Series at HHS, which brings community members into the school to speak with students about their career paths. Digifabshop is a participant in the career series, and donated of $500 to support the HHS Robotics Club’s participation in the annual FIRST Tech Challenge.
The FIRST Tech Challenge is designed for students in grades 7–12 to compete head to head, by designing, building, and programming a robot to compete in an alliance format against other teams. The robot kit is programmed using Java the MIT App Inventor, or other Android programming systems. Teams, with the guidance of coaches, mentors and volunteers, are required to develop strategy and build robots based on innovative, sound engineering principles. Awards are given for the competition as well as for community outreach, design, and other real-world accomplishments.
